What is your connection to WST? How has it impacted your experience at Georgia Tech?
This year is my second year as a Graduate Partner with the WST Learning Community, a community of ~48 women who connect with one another and faculty through monthly dinners, occasional lunches, campus receptions, and research panels. WST was one of my first introductions to Georgia Tech. I loved the idea of a community of people to support each other in a meaningful and action-oriented way. I've had the chance to become familiar with different parts of campus and different faculty/staff from the College of Engineering, Ernest Scheller Jr. College of Business, Women's Resource Center, Office of International Education, and more. It has been great to get to know the campus through WST. In addition, it has been cool to learn about the experience of undergrads here at Tech since I didn't go here for undergrad.
What social and academic advice would you give to students at Georgia Tech?
I would encourage Georgia Tech students to get to know the campus and to try things out! From student organizations and departments to volunteering and events, there are tons of opportunities to meet new people, learn new skills, or just engage with the community. There are also resources that offer support, training, events, and more, such as the Women's Resource Center and LGBTQIA Resource Center. I know how overwhelming it could be to navigate a campus like Georgia Tech, so I think it is especially important to seek out help when you need it and to feel a part of this community. You might find that there are a lot of wonderful people who are there to support you and motivate you.
What is your favorite thing about Georgia Tech?
My favorite thing about Georgia Tech is the research and projects that are going on all over. Whether these projects are academic in nature or not, I find that there is something interesting going on at every corner of campus. There are studios and labs in every department that are doing innovative and interesting work, as well as student organizations and centers. The campus is pretty too!
What are you involved with on campus, and why?
I joined Georgia Tech Barbell Club this semester because I was interested in lifting. I also joined DTJ, a dance group that is affiliated with the Atlanta Filipino Student Association. I've always had a love for dance, but I've never been particularly good at it. Hoping that will change! In addition, I take classes and participate in labs in the Digital Media program, like the Design and Social Interaction Studio.
